Hi, wanted to give a review on ATK Zero after using it for about 2 weeks. Mainly comparing it to Mad R, since most people who buy it are probably looking for a Mad R replacement/upgrade.
1. Coating is similar to Mad R, quite grippy once your fingers get warm/sweat. Mad R did have better coating with dry fingers though, and also a cooler surface. But not an issue IMO, and I'm quite particular about coatings. So far I did not need to use any grip tape.
2. The upgraded v3 hub interface is really nice, compared to the original. A lot more customization is available. The best thing I liked about it was the battery %, which updates in increments of 1, instead of 5. The battery life is a lot better than Mad R.
3. Comes installed with large skates that are better than stock Mad R skates. The included accessories are similar to Mad R, with the addition of dot skates. I think they made the box unnecessarily large and difficult to open. The easy to open magnetized lid of the Mad R box was better IMO.
4. The updated dongle is a lot smaller and better, though the wire is the same stiff cable that the Mad R came with. Really disappointed here, because IMO this was the one big thing they could improve on, by having a better cable that wasn't unusable to play with.
5. The weight balance is similar to Mad R (excellent), and it also feels similar to the Mad R in terms of weight, though I can tell it is slightly heavier. Mad R also had that hollow feeling shell, which I really enjoyed since it made the mouse feel even lighter than it was already. The Zero feels like a solid shell in comparison, but doesn't feel very dense, like a brick. Overall, its 85 % similar in feeling
6. The switches are ATK Opticals, and I was really worried about this since I really enjoyed Omrons opticals lighter switches. But after using these switches, I can confidently say I like the ATK Opticals more. They are quite a bit louder than Omron, and the clicks are a bit heavier. But I feel like I can be much more deliberate in when I want to click, and I also avoid a lot of misclicks.
7. The scroll wheel, side buttons and everything else feels the exact same as Mad R. Nothing to complain about there.
Hopefully with this mouse I can hit Immo again, been struggling the past couple of months since my Mad R broke. But its looking promising. After months of searching, I might have found my Mad R replacement!
I also want to thank Neo-Macro for getting the mouse delivered before the mouse has even been released. In India we're used to receiving outdated products that other countries receive before us, so this website is a god send. Not to mention really fast and well packaged deliveries. Thanks a lot!
