I started my keyboard journey with MX Browns, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed using them for a long time. But when I bought my new Corne v4.1, I wanted to try something more linear in a low-profile format. Naturally, my first choice was Kailh Choc Reds—but since they were unavailable, I picked up Kailh Choc Blacks instead, as they looked similar on the spec sheet.
When they arrived, though, they turned out to be much heavier than I expected, and my initial experience was honestly disappointing. After doing some research, I realized that Kailh Choc Blacks actuate closer to 60g, not 50g as I had assumed. So I ended up having to order another set of switches (😢 what can I say—sometimes you only learn what you truly like after trying it yourself, even if it means paying twice). This time I went with the Kailh Choc Pro Reds, and oh boy, what a difference! They were an absolute bliss to type on.
Here are a few learnings from my experience and research:
1. Kailh Choc switches tend to run heavier than expected. It’s often better to choose a lighter switch than what you're used to in the standard MX profile.
2. Kailh Choc Black v1 – Excellent if you're a heavy typist or prefer strong resistance.
3. Kailh Choc Pro Red v1 – Perfect for lighter typists; not too heavy, but not so light that you risk accidental keypresses.
About the service:
This was the only Indian distributor I could find, and the reviews looked solid with no red flags. I took a leap of faith—and they absolutely delivered.
